How the hourly to salary converter works

The clean conversion

The standard full-time assumption is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours a year. $25/hour → $52,000; $60,000 salary → $28.85/hour. Vacation and holidays are "paid" either way for salaried roles, so the conversion holds only if the hourly job genuinely pays 52 weeks — seasonal and gig work need the weeks-per-year input adjusted honestly.

Where the currencies diverge

Hourly work pays overtime (1.5× past 40 hours under the FLSA) and stops paying when you go home. Salaried exempt work pays predictably and keeps paying the same when the week runs long. A $55k salary with real 45-hour weeks pays ~$23.50 per hour worked — below its naive $26.44 conversion.

Using the converter in negotiations

Convert both offers to dollars-per-hour-worked, including realistic overtime on the hourly side and realistic weekly hours on the salary side. Add the benefits layer (health insurance, PTO, retirement match — often worth 20–30% on top of salary) and the comparison becomes honest on both sides.
